Farm-level carbon numbers, checked by an agronomist.

Independent agronomic and technical expertise for farm-level greenhouse gas quantification. I work directly with companies and alongside sustainability consultancies to make sure the emissions math reflects what actually happens in the field.

Where agronomy meets the model

Every step in a GHG calculation rests on an agronomic assumption.

Most carbon models are built by LCA specialists, and most agronomists never see the code. I understand both the agronomy and the code, so I can check whether a model's assumptions hold up in a real field.

01

Field practice

Nitrogen rate, source, timing and placement; tillage; crop rotation.

kg N ha⁻¹
02

Direct N₂O

Emission factors adjusted for soil zone, moisture and topography.

kg N₂O-N ha⁻¹
03

Indirect N₂O

Losses through volatilization and leaching that return as N₂O downstream.

kg N₂O-N ha⁻¹ Often omitted
04

Crop footprint

Emissions allocated to the harvested grain or oilseed.

kg CO₂e t⁻¹
05

Fuel pathway

Carbon intensity of the finished fuel under CFR or LCFS rules.

g CO₂e MJ⁻¹

A missing loss pathway at step three carries through to every number after it. Finding that kind of gap takes someone who knows both how nitrogen behaves in a prairie field and how the calculator handles it.

Who I work with

Built for the organizations behind farm GHG programs.

Companies

Grain, input and fuel companies

Grain handlers, crop input and digital agronomy companies running grower GHG programs, and fuel producers relying on crop-based feedstock.

Consultancies

Sustainability firms

Specialist agronomic and modelling support as an associate or subcontractor on larger engagements.

Producer groups

Commissions and associations

Plain-language guidance on what carbon programs and fuel regulations mean for members.

Track record

I've run a commercial MRV program, not just reviewed one.

Before founding Verdant Strategies, I spent 14 years at Nutrien Ag Solutions, most recently leading its sustainable agriculture systems.

About

Ryan Adams, P.Ag., CCA

I spent 14 years at Nutrien in western Canada, starting in crop consulting and moving through regional agronomy management, precision agriculture and computational science. As Director of Sustainable Agriculture Systems at Nutrien, I helped build the systems that connect grower practices to sustainability outcomes.

Verdant Strategies brings that mix of field agronomy and data science to greenhouse gas quantification and agricultural analytics. Clients get someone who can read a fertilizer program, a carbon model and a data pipeline with the same care.
